Today begins the final week of Stone Soup daily comic strips. After next Saturday Stone Soup will be a Sunday-only feature. I'd like to point out that I might not be able to say "peed" on Sunday. But it was fun to do it here...

For any of you in possession of my first book, look at the cover. For the strip above that begins my last week of dailies, I paid homage to that cover. From where it all began, we come around again.

Reactions from fans to my transition to Sunday only have ranged from "Nooooooooo!" to "I refuse to accept this" to "Congratulations on a wonderful career. You deserve it!" One fan said that Stone Soup is the best comic strip in the universe, and while I love to think of comic strips being generated in faraway galaxies, I think the chances are slim—but I will happily take the compliment.
Over the years I have been lucky enough to receive an abundance of warm and kind fan mail, as well as the generous attention of comics chroniclers like Mike Peterson who eloquently writes Comic Strip Of The Day, Alan Gardner who puts out a great newsletter called The Daily Cartoonist, Tom Racine who broadcasts the wonderful Tall Tale Radio podcast, and of course wonderful print journalists like Randi Bjornstadt who have given my work some very nice attention in newspapers. All have given me attention since my announcement. Check out their blogs, they are all well worth following.
The latest print piece by Randi is in this past Sunday's Register Guard. With some very nice photos by Chris Pietsch. Thanks to both.
So here's the 8 reasons you are all the BEST:
1) You say the nicest things on FaceBook
2) You say the nicest things on Twitter
3) You send the nicest emails
Lest you think you are all simply NICE, I theorize that the reasons you are so wonderful are:
4) You are smart
5) You are well-informed
6) You are quick to defend me against naysayers and speakers of ugliness (yes, they are out there, but with you all to keep watch I feel well taken care of)
6) You are all feminists at heart and it shows
7) You are appreciative and not afraid to show it
8) You are kind and generous
Thank you for making my 20 years of daily fun so rewarding. Thank you for buying my books and for sending me notes and telling me that I make you feel less alone. You do the same for me.
See you on Sunday!
