There is an annual event coming up in my hometown of Eugene... the Author Artist fair. It's an all-day event that features dozens of local artists and authors selling their creative endeavors... and a big chunk of the proceeds benefit Library Summer Reading programs. I do it every year, so if you are nearby, I hope you'll stop in.
I will be signing my two newest books (2011), and will have a selection of the older collections as well. Plus, I'm hoping to have 25 Women Build/Haiti shirts to sell, all proceeds going to the Santos Women's Solidarity Association (the group the Women Build team met with in Haiti).
I know many of you are not local, but if you are, it would be great to see you.
Author/Artist Fair • Saturday, December 10 • 10-6pm
Lane County Fairgrounds, Eugene, OR

Finally, if you can't be there but would like to get Stone Soup books, you can order them through this website.
Thanks for reminding!! I will come for sure!

I hope you will show grandma as helping her boyfriend in Haiti but not staying with him. I'ts time to start setting an example for the young people that living together without marriage is not a true commitment.

Hello Jan:
I want you to know how much I appreciate all that you are doing for Haiti. Stone Soup is a terrific way to keep Haiti in mind. I live in Atlanta and thus know Habitat for Humanity quite well and applaud their work although I do not agree with stick-built housing in Haiti. I am a retired professor of building construction at Georgia Tech (Presidents Carter's school before the Naval Academy.) I build houses, schools, and medical centers out of shipping containers as they are earthquake, storm and theft proof, and their construction can be accomplished entirely with local (Haitian) workers. They are also available in Haiti and do not require the importation of materials. I am currently working with Rotary Clubs both here in the U.S. and Delmas and Petion-Ville in Haiti to create "Rotary Villages" as a vision for Haiti.
I would love to communicate with you. Perhaps we can do something for Haiti together. Please view my web page: Globalcontainerpartnerships.com. As you know, it is very hard to get things moving in Haiti without a great deal of foreign input, but I feel it most important for the Haitians to take the lead in rebuilding their country. After all, they had the only successful slave revolt in history. They need to regain their sense of accomplishment after so many defeats (tent cities) and I believe container construction is a way to start.
Very best regards,
Richard Martin

I have enjoyed reading Stone Soup the last couple of weeks. Our family has a strong connection with Haiti. My parents - Don and Dorothy - both age 83, just returned from their 4th trip to Haiti. This time they went with IDES and were involved with helping Haitians build houses, which incidentally are not stick houses. My daughter lived there for three years and continues to make trips. Her husband is a doctor and makes trips to work at the hospital in Fonds. Thanks for keeping your readers informed that there is still a lot that we need to do to help people in Haiti. Jan -
I read Stone Soup daily and have loved the HFH story lines for the last few years. I wondered how you knew so much about what went on there. Now I know!
I was a house leader (houses 208 and 209)in Haiti and would have loved to meet you. Perhaps next year? I'll be there; will you?
