Just finished This Might Not be Pretty, which I bought at the author event at the Lane County Fairgrounds. Besides really enjoying revisiting the storylines, I very much appreciated seeing the strips in color (whoo hoo!). But what really impressed me was that, freed from the eensy size restrictions of the daily paper, the characters' faces are fascinating, and so detailed. I feel I should study your art as a tutorial in the nuances of conveying emotions via facial expression.

Hi Carol,
Thank you so much for you very kind words! This is the nicest comment Ive ever received. Do you mind if I use your comment in an upcoming blog? I wont include your name or email address, of course.

I love working on facial expressions, and actually make the face myself while drawing. I think when Im making the face I somehow feel it and can convey it to the paper. It is one of the joys of cartooning, and unfortunately it is indeed a bit lost in the size and quality of the daily comics.

Thanks again. You made my day.
Jan
