hi, jan! i was at toonfest. you might remember me: i was the very large woman who brought her own copy of one of your books to be signed. anyway, i'm a big reader. i read a lot of everything, and i just finished robert b. parker's newest spenser book "rough weather". i only mention this because on page 269 spenser is reading the newspaper in his office (he loves the sports and a select few comics including tank mcnamara and arlo and janis--this is not the first book to mention these strips by name) and the book says:

'I was studying a strip called Stone Soup, which seemed pretty good, and might fill the void left by Calvin & Hobbes,...'

I thought you might want to know.

Hi Denese,
I remember you quite well! How nice of you to post this comment and tell me about the Robert B. Parker book. First, I have never read them and now must... and second, how amazing that my strip is mentioned. Well, I'm off to the bookstore...

I hope you had a nice time at Toonfest. What a great event. And THANKS for bringing your book to be signed. Made my day.

Best,
Jan

Glad to make your day. I really like your strip. Hope you enjoy the Spenser books. They're not for everyone.

what kind of dog is biscuit?
Bull Terrier?

Jan Eliot

Biscuit is based on one of my dogs, a Schipperke. I got her as a puppy in the early days of Stone Soup and her hyper nature inspired me to add her to the strip. But Schipperke's are all black and have no tail, not great for a cartoon dog. So I morphed my dog's personality, face and ears into a black and white dog that reminds me most of a Jack Russell.
